テーマ：「高校生にとって制服は良い考えか？」
2017年度の東北大学全学部共通試験（前期）の英作文では、「高校生にとって制服は良い考えだと思うか？」というテーマが出された。文中の主張を用いずに肯定か否定かで答える問題である。一見、否定の方が書きやすいと思われがちだが、オシャレをしたいなどの理由は本文中で語られているので注意が必要だ。この英作文では、主張の理由がメインで問われているので、背伸びした言葉で文章を作らないことがポイント。構成としては「1.賛否の主張」、「2.主張の理由」、「3.具体例（字数不足時）」と文章を展開していくと良い。

I think uniforms are a good idea. Uniforms may seem to bind students, but I think they also protect. Being in uniform tells the surrounding people that they are minors, and the surrounding people take care not to get caught in danger. 私は制服について良い考えだと思います。制服は学生を縛っているように見えるかもしれませんが、実は守っていると思います。制服を着ることで、周囲に未成年であることを伝えれば、周囲の人が危険に巻き込まないように配慮します。学生は気づかないかもしれませんが、このように制服は無用な事件から学生を守っているのです。
